Good morning
How was your weekend? Did anybody do anything special?😈😛 Probably not. Never mind, at least this is a time we will never forget ...
-Today we will finish unit 6 with the writing section. The writing we will practise in this unit is "Informative Essay".
1. Open your Student's Book on page 84 and read the sample essay. (There is another example on page 171)
2. Think of an issue you may find interesting to write about. Here are some suggestions:
-You might like to write about something connected to technology, like Silicon Valley or a successful company such as Facebook, Google or Instagram,..
-You might also be interested in the sharing economy, or a company within the sharing economy that has developed quickly.
-Or what about talking about Millenials or any movement connected to your generation, like "Fridays for Future" or any urban tribe you belong to or you know?
-You can also write about any NGO (charity) that you or members of your family support.
3. Obviously, the first thing we need to do in an informative essay is...get informed! First, do some research. Then, select the most important information and summarise it in no more than 200 hundred words.
4. Remember you need:
-introduction: What organisation am I talking about?
-body: main facts (how it began, its history, achievements, what makes it special...
-closing: Summarise the main points and make a personal comment.
5. When do you have to hand it in? Wednesday 13th May.
Type your essay!

Go through the list (read the examples to get to understand) and do the following exercises:

CONDITIONALS
The following documents will help you revise Conditionals. You must download them and save them on your computer as I may need to delete some posts if I run out of space in my Padlet.
You don't need to do all the exercises today. You have got today and Monday. You can cover Zero, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Conditionals today and then Mixed Conditionals and Other Ways of Expressing Condition on Monday.
-The first document is a PPT.
-The second document includes the same information as the PPT in pdf format. (The contents in red are extra)
-The third document includes all the exercises. It is a word document: If you cannot print it, you can edit it and save it on your computer.
There are two levels:
-The exercises in blue are lower-level exercises.
-The exercises in black are course-level exercises.
-DECIDE if you need to do ALL exercises OR ONLY COURSE-LEVEL exercises.
-Obviously, you need to know irregular verbs!!!!!
-I will include the solutions as soon as possible (this morning) so you can check them straight away.
-Remember Zero, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Conditionals were introduced in 3rd ESO and revised in 4th ESO. The new contents are Mixed Conditionals and Other Ways of Expressing Condition.
-Remember: you can help each other with Hangouts or Skype!
Good Luck!!

Writing a report of an event
Write a report of an event you will remember for the rest of your life. The event can be a personal event (wedding, anniversary, graduation ceremony, ...) or a festival that thousands of people attend (you can imagine you are a foreigner and you attend a special event celebrated in our country.)
DATE: Wednesday, 5th February.
Include the following:
Opening:
-What event is it? When and why is it held? How many people go to this celebration.
-Preparations.
Body:
What special things did you do/see that day?
What was the atmosphere like?
Was there any special decoration?
Were people wearing something special?
What was the most memorable moment? What did people do when that moment arrived?
How did you feel?
Closing:
-How did the event end? Include a concluding sentence and your opinion about the event.
Vocabulary and expressions:
Write a list of expressions from the sample texts that you can use in your writing. Here you are an example of each. Use the following headings:
-What is the event? "...takes place... ; "The event, which celebrates... is something all... look forward to"
-How many people visit every year? "visitors from all over the country gather...."
-Preparations I had been preparing for ... for months"
-Atmosphere "excitement was in the air"
-Decorations "The ... was brightly decorated"
-What did people do? (narrate the main events)
-What were people wearing? (if important for the event) "...were exotically dressed..."
-What did people do when the most exciting moment arrived? "...cheered with excitement when..." ..."couldn't keep back their tears."
-Final comments "What an exciting day it had been."
Remember to use "sophisticated" adjectives (extreme adjectives) to make your report more vivid.

Project Term 2: A Podcast
ORAL
PART OF YOUR EXAM: SECOND TERM
PRODUCING
A PODCAST
The best podcasts will participate in a contest organised in the school!!!
The best podcasts will participate in a contest organised in the school!!!
THE AUTOBIOGRAHY OF A
RELEVANT PERSON IN HISTORY
The
final product will be a (5 minutes approx.) podcast in which a
relevant person in history talks about his/her life, or about some
important aspects of it and his/her achievements. It should be a
monologue emphasizing the human aspect of this person and trying to
avoid a mere list of events/facts just copied from the Internet.
STEPS
TO FOLLOW:
1-
Listen to the model example
of podcast about “Santa Teresa” – which you can find in
the blog-. This way you will have a
clearer idea of what you are expected to do.
2-
Choose a person you find interesting:
a writer, a politician, an activist (Nobel Peace Prize, for example),
...etc. He/She should preferably come from an English speaking
country in order to make your monologue in English more believable.
You
might like to choose some relevant people like:
British historical figures:
Guy Fawkes, Queen Victoria, Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth I,
Elizabeth II.
Worldwide
Icons: Nelson Mandela, Mahatma
Gandhi, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, Martin Luther King, Mother
Teresa, Rosa Parks, Florence Nightingale, Anna Frank.
Here
are some writers you might find interesting:
Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Mary
Shelley, Emily Dickinson, J.K .Rowling, William Shakespeare, Charles
Dickens, George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, Aldous Huxley.
3-
Do some serious research about
the person you choose. Try to get and contrast information from
different sources. Focus on the person’s
human side: his/her personality,
his/her family, important events, hardships, obstacles overcome...
4-
Write your own script.
Type your final version and send it to your teacher BEFORE 17TH FEBRUARY. Mention the sources you
have taken the information from.
5-
Select some background music which
you can add to your recording. Make sure the music volume doesn’t
interfere with your voice.
6-
Read your text aloud.
Pay careful attention to your pronunciation and intonation. Check the
pronunciation of difficult words on the internet.
7-
Rehearse
reading your text as many times as you need to make it sound
fluent and natural: You might find
these tips useful:
-underline
the key words and phrases
-decide
where to breathe / plan where you will pause
-
enunciate clearly
-
change the pitch and tone of your voice as appropriate
-focus
on dramatic pauses and emphasis
-practise
your reading in from of a friend
-
record your reading on your mobile phone and listen to it.
8-
Use “Audacity”
(audio editor) to record and edit your podcast.
9-
Send
the podcast and your final script to your teacher.
DEADLINE
TO MEET: 3rd
of March
ASSESSING
YOUR WORK:
The
following aspects will be taken into account to assess your work:
-Content
(Grammar accuracy / extensive vocabulary / organization of ideas)
-Pronunciation
/ intonation (Very important!!!!!)
